The earliest records of our church date back to August 24, 1907.  On September 21, 1907, the church elected W.A. Thompson as its first pastor.  In October 1914, the church purchased 1.3 acres of land for $12, which is where the rock church is now located.  The sanctuary in the rock church was built in 1941 and was constructed from rock that was blasted from the mountain and hauled down to the site by horse and wagon.

Mount Pleasant Baptist Church entered a new season of renewal through the South Carolina Baptist Revitalization Program, a ministry of the South Carolina Baptist Convention. In 2021, God opened the door for a fresh start, one rooted in prayer and a shared desire to see our church thrive again.

Through this revitalization effort, Renfrew Baptist Church in Travelers Rest, faithfully supported this restart both financially and spiritually, sending a group of committed core families along with a staff family to help bring renewed life and leadership to Mount Pleasant.

Because of this partnership, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church has experienced a fresh beginning, built on a strong foundation of faithful members, new families, and a renewed vision to reach our community with the hope of Christ.

Today, we continue to grow as a welcoming, family-focused church committed to following Jesus together and serving our community with joy and purpose.
